Biochemistry was introduced at undergraduate level in 1994 – 95, with the initial financial assistance from UGC under the scheme of “vocationalization of courses at undergraduate level” Presently this course is run under the self-finance scheme.
Biochemistry is the Science Concerned with Chemical Nature & Chemical Behaviour of the Living Matter that is , the application of chemistry to the study of biological processes at the cellular and molecular level.
Biochemistry emerged as a distinct discipline around the beginning of the twentieth century when scientists combined chemistry, physiology and biology to investigate the chemistry of living systems by:
- Studying the structure and behavior of the complex molecules found in biological material and
- The ways these molecules interact to form cells, tissues and whole organism
As a biochemistry graduate, the students will possess
- Good understanding of the molecular basis of the processes that take place in cells and organisms.
- Ability to plan, conduct and evaluate experiments and research and interpret scientific literature.
